The official website for the anime adaptation
of Carlo
Zen and Shinobu Shinotsuki's Saga
of Tanya the Evil (Yōjo Senki) novel series
unveiled a trailer for the upcoming anime film on Tuesday.
The
website also announced the cast for new characters that will appear in the
film:
·
Takashi Inagaki as Joseph Dzhugashvili
·
Chō as Loria
·
Toshiyuki Morikawa as William Douglas Drake
·
Jun Fukushima as Edgar
·
Mutsumi Tamura as BB
The film will open in Japan on February 8,
2019. MYTH&ROID will
return to perform the film's theme song.
The film's story follows from the events of the television
anime. In 1926, Tanya and her battalion return home from defeating remnants of
the Republic's army. However, when they arrive they receive word of a massive
mobilization near the border with the Russy Federation, so the Empire's army
must prepare. At the same time, a multinational army under the leadership of
the Allied Kingdom moves into the Russy Federation. The enemy of an enemy is a
friend, but among the Allied Kingdom army is Mary Sue, a girl who has sworn to
exact justice against the Empire for the death of her father.
Director Yutaka Uemura told Kadokawa's Newtype magazine in January that the movie will depict the change in
relationship between Tanya and the top brass, as well as the development of her
troops. Uemura also noted that there were originally no plans to make a film
after the series finished, but the film was green-lit thanks to the support of
fans.
Most of the
staff and cast are returning from the earlier television anime.
The television
anime premiered in January 2017. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it
aired, and Funimation streamed an English dub.
