The official website for the television anime adaptation of Tsuyoshi Yoshioka's Kenja
no Mago (The
Wise Grandson or lit. The Sage's Grandson) novels revealed
on Thursday that virtual singer "Nanami Yoshi" will perform the
ending theme song for the anime.
The staff held auditions
for a "female virtual talent" to perform the ending theme song. Elements Garden is composing the song. A "virtual shrine maiden"
named "Maya Hinanogi" additionally received a Special Award through
the audition, and will debut as a voice actress, although the staff did not
specify if Maya Hinanogi will debut with Kenja no Mago.
The anime will
premiere in April 2019. Masafumi Tamura (Two Car, Ange Vierge) is directing the anime at SILVER LINK, and Tatsuya Takahashi (The IDOLM@STER Cinderella
Girls, Beatless, Eromanga Sensei) is overseeing the series
scripts. Yuki Sawairi (Masamune-kun's Revenge, Two Car) is designing the
characters.
Yūsuke Kobayashi will star in the anime as Shin Wolford.
The original story begins when a powerful wizard and
sage, who has saved his world from calamity many times, comes upon a baby whom
he adopts and names Shin. The baby is actually a man from our world
reincarnated into the sage's world. The sage raises Shin, separated from the
rest of society, and teaches him in the ways of magic. It is only when Shin
turns 15 years old and sets out on his own journey that the sage remembers that
he forgot to teach Shin the common sense and ways of this particular world. And
so, Shin goes the capital of the Alsheid Kingdom to enroll in the capital's
magic academy.
Yoshioka
began posting the story on the "Shōsetsuka ni Narō" (Let's
Be Novelists) website in January 2015, and continues to publish chapters for
the story there. Kadokawa began publishing the
story in light novel volumes with the first volume in July 2015. Kadokawa published
the eighth volume on March 30, and will publish the ninth volume on December
29. The company published an "Extra Story" volume in November 2017. Seiji Kikuchi (Mayo
Chiki! light novel illustrations) draws the illustrations for the
novels.
