Inspired by tales from Mozambique, the film tells the story of a young girl named Chiure. When her seaside community is in danger, she must awaken a centuries-old connection to the ocean and a powerful, ancient water God sleeping deep beneath the waves to protect her people.

The film was fittingly announced on June 25th, i
n honor of the 50th Mozambique Independence Day.

This project comes from N LITE a company with a mission to bring Black and Indigenous stories to global audiences through what they call "AFRIME" or "afro-anime"—stunning, hand-drawn 2D animation.

You may have already heard of N LITE from their other major project, "MFINDA" which they are producing with some huge names, including Viola Davis's production company (JuVee Productions) and legendary anime producers like Masao Maruyama (producer of Tokyo Godfathers) and Gisaburō Sugii (director of Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie).

With "Chiure: Child of the Sea," N LITE is continuing its exciting work of bringing incredible new stories to the world of animation.
