Dark workplace comedy series centers on part-time workers at torture company
Great news for fans of dark workplace comedies! Kadokawa announced on Friday that Yawora Tsugumi's Gōmon Baito-kun no Nichijō (The Everyday Life of Torture Part-Time Workers) manga is getting a television anime adaptation set to debut in winter 2026. Along with the announcement, Kadokawa revealed the main cast, a teaser visual, and a promotional video that's sure to get fans excited.
What's the Story About?
The manga presents a uniquely twisted take on workplace comedy, set in a world where murder and torture are completely legal and "torture contract companies" operate as legitimate businesses. The story follows Cero and Shiu, who work part-time for "Spirytus," a torture company that's actually known for treating its employees well and only targeting genuinely bad people.
The dynamic gets even more interesting when two new part-time hires join the team: Mikke and Hugh. Together, these four characters navigate their unusual work life, finding joy and camaraderie in the most unexpected of professions.
Meet the Voice Cast
Kadokawa has revealed the main voice cast for the upcoming anime:
Shunichi Toki voices Cero, described as the ace of the company who gets along with everyone. Toki's experience should bring great energy to this central character.
Takuma Terashima takes on the role of Shiu, who's apparently a legend in the torture world. Terashima's voice acting range makes him perfect for this complex character.
Takuma Nagatsuka will voice Mikke, the new hire who brings a cute and energetic personality to the workplace. This contrast should create some interesting dynamics.
Yōhei Azakami rounds out the main cast as Hugh, a serious and kind-hearted university student who's also new to the company. Azakami's ability to portray earnest characters will be key to Hugh's appeal.
About the Manga
Gōmon Baito-kun no Nichijō launched on Hakusensha's Young Animal Web service in December 2022, so it's still relatively new but has already built up a solid following. The series has been successful enough to warrant this anime adaptation, with Hakusensha publishing the fifth volume on December 26, 2024, and the sixth volume scheduled for release on June 27, 2025.
To celebrate the anime announcement, creator Yawora Tsugumi drew a special illustration, showing their excitement for seeing their characters come to life in animated form.
Why This Anime Could Be Special
Dark workplace comedies are having a moment, and Gōmon Baito-kun no Nichijō seems perfectly positioned to capitalize on that trend. The premise is absurd enough to be funny while still allowing for genuine character development and workplace dynamics that many viewers will find surprisingly relatable.
The fact that the "torture company" in the story actually treats its employees well and has moral standards adds an interesting layer of satire about corporate culture. It's workplace comedy with a very dark twist, but one that might end up being more heartwarming than you'd expect.
Looking Ahead to Winter 2026
With the anime still over a year away, there's plenty of time for anticipation to build. The winter 2026 anime season is already shaping up to be interesting, and Gōmon Baito-kun no Nichijō definitely adds a unique flavor to the mix.
For fans of unconventional comedies and workplace stories, this one is definitely worth keeping on your radar. The combination of talented voice actors, a unique premise, and what appears to be solid source material could make this a standout series when it finally arrives.
