Season 5: What We Know So Far

The announcement for Season 5 came hot on the heels of the 12th and final episode of Season 4, which aired just yesterday. To fuel the hype, Kadokawa released a stunning "ultra teaser visual" and a teaser video, giving fans a tantalizing, albeit brief, glimpse into Naofumi's next chapter.

While a release date has not yet been set, the continuation will follow the successful fourth season produced by Kinema Citrus. The core creative team is expected to return, ensuring a consistent vision for the series. This includes director Hitoshi Haga, who took the helm in the third season, series script supervisor Keigo Koyanagi, and the trio of character designers Franziska van Wulfen, Sana Komatsu, and Masahiro Suwa. Critically, the legendary composer Kevin Penkin, whose score is a defining feature of the series, will also be returning to craft the music for the new season.

A New Global Game on the Horizon

In addition to a new season, Kadokawa also unveiled its first-ever global game project for the franchise, slated for release on PC and smartphones. A teaser visual for the game was released, hinting at a large-scale adventure.

This marks a significant step up for the franchise in the gaming space. While Shield Hero

has had smaller game adaptations in the past—such as the 2019 RPG Maker title Relive The Animation and a 2024 Picross puzzle game—this new "global project" suggests a much more ambitious and widely accessible title is in development, designed for an international audience from the ground up.

The fourth season of The Rising of the Shield Hero premiered on July 9th and just concluded its 12-episode run. For anyone needing to catch up on the latest adventures of Naofumi, Raphtalia, and Filo, the entire series, including the season that just ended, is available for streaming on Crunchyroll. With a fifth season and a major new game on the way, the future looks brighter—and more challenging—than ever for the Shield Hero.
